OSFA Board Meeting

 OSFA Board of Directors held their spring meeting on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Teleflora Headquarters in Oklahoma City.  President, Barbara Bilke opened the meeting with twelve board members present:  Eva Riter, Sue Kendall, Becky Hearon, Lenzee Bilke, Lacee Bilke, Renaye’ Johnston, Suzi Lawrence, Ed Cronin, Darrell Bigby, Susan Shebester, Mark Erickson and Jackie Witte.

The minutes and treasurer’s report were both approved. 

Association business was discussed as follows:

Susan Shebester will be creating a new membership brochure. 

Vice-President, Sue Kendall is the head of the Nominating Committee.   Election will be held for the offices of Secretary, Treasurer, Events Chairperson and Membership Chair.  Ballots will be sent out to membership in advance of July’s conference. 

Plans are moving forward for a fantastic conference in Stillwater, July 22 – 24, 2016.  Vendors are being contacted and some have already reserved their booths.  Both FTD and Teleflora have once again, graciously agreed to sponsor designers from their “stables” of the industry’s finest designers. 

Hands on classes to be offered will be “Garden Style” and “Designs with Succulents”.  These classes are offered on a first come, first served basis. 

A Bridal Bouquet Design Competition will be held at conference on Saturday where shops will be able to enter their stunning bouquets.  These entries will then be showcased as part of the OKC Bridal Show in Oklahoma City.

 The Education Committee members, Mark Erickson and Susan Shebester announced that a partnership has been reached between OSFA and OSU / Career Tech to offer floral design classes.   Information can be found on OSFA’s website regarding class schedule and pricing.

Industry board members, Suzi Lawrence, Ed Cronin, Darrell Bigbee and Mark Erickson reported that the industry had stabilized and was looking good for traditional florists and that shops were looking forward to a successful Mothers’ Day. 

 OSFA Board of Directors will hold their next meeting in July while attending their annual conference.
